VERMOUTH ON ICE Broke! Nearly more than anyone. Really more than anyone I know. Show! Really good at putting on. Really good at keeping them all fooled. And my feet, they hang from my shins. And my shins, they swing from my knees. And I’m blowing down the alley like some garbage on the breeze. Are you only into shattered men, my Love? Are you only into make believe, and that’s all? My clothes only full of rattling bones. My heart is full of blood that doesn’t move. And all my tendons feel like rope. And oh, my limbs are a hanging tree. And everything is nothing. And there’s a silent howl. There’s a lamplight buzzing in front of me. It blinds me more than it helps me to see. Are you only into shattered men, my Love? Are you only into make believe, and that’s all? Are you really into anything at all? Anything at all?

INTO THE DAYLIGHT Violins. Fall into a thick black sea. Violent waves. Play them as they slowly sink. The sun will laugh in the face of tonight. And the day will come. And we’ll both be free. We are lying to ourselves. We can’t outrun. The cold hard truth is the warmth of the sun. Is what we need. If we take a step out into the daylight. Only for a moment will it burn. Then we’ll be alright. Bending trees. Tides are playing tympanis. Horizon grey. Birds all fly the other way. Cotton clouds dipped in ink. Circle the drain down the sink the wrong way. Forgotten shrouds on the wind. Whipping about off to hell the long way. But if we take a step out into the daylight. Only for a moment will it burn. Then we’ll be alright.

SPRINGTIME DON’T CALL (PTS. I & II) There came a constellation bright against the night. Was only swarming flies that caught a little light. And haunting ain’t a crime! It’s a game of the living. I fall from the trees in the fall. Springtime don’t call. So thank somebody else the flowers, they weren’t for me. Weeds are all I grow. My heart is a ghetto. I was half alive when I lived. I’ll be half dead when I die. And funeral arrangements are a joke I’m the only who’ll cry. I fall from the trees in the fall. Springtime don’t call. I’m a black umbrella. Don’t stand under me. Rain up to my knees. My heart is a ghetto. On the widow’s walk the miles have made me mean. Peace it keeps me angry. Silence make me scream. Oh the wind has blown. Oh how the wind does blow. Oh the wind will blow. My heart is a ghetto.

SKELETON LIPS Once my love you were and now disease you are. A baned existence. That I’ve taken way too far. My thoughts are few, my pains are plenty. Is my life worth one dirty penny to you? Skeleton lips. You’ve got a cold, cold kiss. Make thick my blood. Thicker still, my skin. I won’t let your vampires. Suck the life that I’ve within. I’ve asked you, I’ve begged you. I’ve prayed and begged again. And this ain’t the last time you’re gonna make me kill. There’s murdered flowers laying in your window sill. And now you’re here no matter where you are. Just one more starving penny rusting in the jar. Skeleton lips. You’ve got a cold, cold kiss.

DON’T YOU FEEL THE DYING Hey! You'll be fine. You'll get well when you have time. Put down the receiver and put your head to bed. Don't you feel the dying love? Hey! You'll be cool. You'll get well when you have nothing better to do. Put down the receiver and put your head to bed. Don't you feel the dying love? I'm in the phone book you shouldn't have thrown out. Your dress is torn and your heels are blown out. You know I'm with you there in spirit. But not enough to ever again go near it. Hey! You’ll be fine. You’ll get well when you’ve got time. Put down the receiver and put your head to bed. Don't you feel the dying love? Memories of you and I in the forest. Beat up autumn sun trickling through the trees. He's in the bruise you're hiding with makeup. You wear so much now, your skin is starting to break up. Eyes shadowed blue. Your hair looks like it just happened to you. Put down the receiver and put your head to bed. Don't you feel the dying love?

BUGLE SERENADE 1975 Woke up the troops with a bugle serenade. Blew from the gut but the ranks were never made. Walkie talkie static from across the yard. Rifles in a stack by the open gate. Rifles in a stack by the open gate. Oh! Walkie talkie static from across the yard. I went on patrol, didn’t find a single head. The enemies foxhole looks like a riverbed. What I thought was a private on a cannon was an empty uniform. I ran home to the barracks. There was no one but on each bunk was an empty uniform. Solitary soldier on a hill. Mercenary man with no one to kill. Mercenary man with no one to kill. Oh! Solitary soldier on a hill. I swear I shot him and I looked to see where I got him. It was an empty uniform. I swear I shot him, I swear I got him. It was an empty uniform. A war is a war, and when it’s no more. A uniform is a fashion. It’s a fashion! Where is the line in the sand when the wind has blown? Who are the leaders of men when they’re on their own? Hiding from a tank inside a tent. Shooting at a tin can on a fence.

THE FRIGHTENER You lived alone. And I lived with you. Our walls were thin, thin, and our windows few, few, few. It was a long, long, long hallway to the bed we lay on. And the last few beats of a song always skipping on the player. Neither of us know. Against the eggshell wall our shadows cast and fell. With the table sawed down the middle. And our chairs splintered in a heap. Well we took off our shoes and we crossed our legs. And we sat on our ankles and feet. And there was a long, long, long hallway to the bed we laid on. And the last few beats of a song always skipping on the player. Neither of us go. It was a long, long, long hallway to the bed we lay on.

STREETS Well. Well and good. If you’re thinking about leaving then you probably should. And answers have little place when the question’s bad. When the question’s bad. And I don't know what the sun-up will bring Or the sunset will show now. Well. Wishing well. You dive in for a penny. You climbed out from hell. Well. I wish you well. And I already miss you. Can't you tell? And I don't know what the sun-up will bring Or the sunset will show now.
